Frequently asked questions
Is this accepted by SARS?
SARS requires your logbook to record, for each business trip, the date, the business kilometres travelled, the destination and the reason — together with your opening and closing odometer readings for the year. LogBoek captures all of these fields and reconciles them into the same structure as the SARS logbook template. You remain responsible for the accuracy of what you enter.
I didn't keep a logbook all year — can I still use this?
Yes — that's the whole idea. As long as you have your opening and closing odometer readings and can list your business trips, LogBoek reconstructs the full daily record and works out your private kilometres as the balance.
Do I have to enter my tax number or registration?
No. Both are optional. You can leave them blank and write them onto the document later if you prefer.
What is the South African tax year?
1 March to 28/29 February. A logbook labelled "2025" covers the year ending February 2025. LogBoek is leap-year aware.
PDF or Excel?
Individuals export a clean, SARS-ready PDF, with unlimited re-exports once a logbook is unlocked. Excel export is part of the practitioner plan.
I have more than one car.
Keep one logbook per vehicle per tax year. If you manage many vehicles or clients, the practitioner plan is designed for that.
Where is my data stored? Is it POPIA compliant?
By default your logbooks stay on your device and work offline. If you sign in and enable sync, they're stored in your own account on Firebase (Google Cloud). We never sell your data or send logbook content to analytics. See our Privacy Policy.
How do refunds work?
In-app purchases are handled by Google Play or the App Store and follow their refund processes. For web purchases, contact support@logboek.co.za. Because the deliverable is a digital document, unlocks are generally non-refundable once exported — see our Terms.
